Golf on St. John?

Gaia's Pearl is excited to announce the completion of St John's first and only private villa putting green.

All great things start with the simplest of ideas. In October of 2020 we visited Gaia's Pearl to check on construction progress. While examining the area outside of the lower bedrooms we noted that there was nothing beyond the balconies except a slope through the septic area. The original plan was for railings on the balconies and landscaping beyond.

We suggested to our builder the construction of a retaining wall from the pool equipment room around to the edge of the Great Cruz Bay bedroom. He further suggested that the last part of the wall be stairs from the terrace down to the septic area made from stones and boulders excavated from the property.

This was the birth of our “grassy knoll”. The golfer in our group suggested with a smile, “how about a putting green?” The idea took off and we were done with the design. The intent was to have the grassy knoll ready for our first guests; but as often happens on the island, we hit some snags. For some time, and several guests, the grassy knoll remained incomplete, though it was usable for Bocce Ball, Giant Jenga and corn hole.

We realized the value a completed grassy knoll would do for our guests’ experience and a partner took charge with trying to locate someone, somewhere to complete the project. After several painstaking months with endless phone calls and emails, we finally located someone in Hialeah, Florida, Q-ban Turf, INC. We will spare you the rest of the details, but get this, we had to fly four guys in from Florida, and put them up for five nights to finally get it all done. They did a stupendous job!

We couldn’t be happier with the result, and we think you’ll agree, the grassy knoll and the island's only private putting green gives you one more great reason to stay at St John’s newest luxury villa, Gaia’s Pearl, Far From It, Yet Close To Everything!
